Brewing a Legacy - The Fernandez Siblings' Coffee Journey

The Fernandez siblings from Honduras have honored their father's legacy by learning to produce and roast their family farm's coffee beans with the help of Texas A&M's Center for Coffee Research and Education. After their father's passing, Irene, Miguel, and Francisco sought to fulfill his dream by turning the farm's produce into a sellable product. With guidance from the center's Assistant Director Eric Brenner and coffee expert Rodrigo Chavez, they gained a formal understanding of the coffee industry, from harvesting to exporting. The family's coffee farm, started by their great-grandfather, has grown significantly under their father, Don Miguel. The siblings were able to roast their coffee beans at What’s The Buzz in College Station on their father's birthday, a full-circle moment that paid tribute to their father's love for A&M. The Center for Coffee Research and Education aims to further coffee education, and the Fernandez family looks forward to creating their own brand and giving back to the community through collaboration with the university.
