A coffee company that began as a mobile business has opened its second location in Ocean Beach. Founder Chris O’Brien, who has worked in coffee since he was 16, started with a unique tricycle coffee cart. After years of serving coffee in San Diego, he established a permanent café in Pacific Beach. The new café on Voltaire Street features a five-kilo roaster, allowing O’Brien to roast beans on-site. The menu offers a variety of drinks, including single-origin coffee and specialty options like lavender lattes. The café also makes its own nut milk and flavored syrups, and will soon add in-house sandwiches to the menu.
• The café will serve mocktails and snacks like empanadas.
• Events will include educational classes and farmer meet-and-greets.
• Chuck Patton, O’Brien's mentor, is returning to the industry with a small roaster in the café.
• Patton will also offer online sales of rare coffees and consulting services.
This expansion highlights the growing trend of personalized coffee experiences and community engagement in the café culture. The focus on local ingredients and direct relationships with coffee farmers reflects a broader movement towards sustainability and quality in the coffee industry.
