Matthew Naylor-Batista's life took a twist after a DNA test linked him to Puerto Rican coffee farmers. Compelled to explore, he bought and revived an abandoned 250-acre farm, Hacienda Don Mateo. Despite never drinking coffee before, he now runs Cafe Don Mateo, offering coffee grown and roasted in Puerto Rico. His approach intertwines sustainable farming with community upliftment. The farm preserves local flora and fauna, while providing fair wages to workers. The commercial launch of Cafe Don Mateo features small-batch roasted coffee, sold online. Future plans include farm tours and meals from farm-grown produce. Naylor-Batista’s journey is a testament to rediscovered roots and sustainable farming.
