A new initiative in Burundi aims to boost coffee production and empower local communities. JNP Coffee is spearheading a project that includes the establishment of a Coffee Academy and a microlot dry mill. This venture is backed by a $1.5 million partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The academy will focus on training women and youth in various coffee-related skills, while the dry mill will enhance microlot coffee production for export to the U.S. market.
• The project will create 600 jobs in the next two years.
• It aims to increase coffee exports to the U.S. by $400,000 by 2026.
• Over 100 women and young people will receive training in coffee skills.
• The training will follow Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) standards.
This initiative is significant as it not only enhances the local coffee industry but also provides valuable skills and employment opportunities for the community. By investing in education and infrastructure, it seeks to improve the livelihoods of many in Burundi while strengthening ties with the U.S. coffee market.
