Ollie Wakefield, co-owner of Vegbox on Exeter Quay, is launching a new bakery and café named Melo in Marsh Barton, Exeter. The idea originated when Gavin Teague, co-owner of Lumi Therapy, suggested opening a café at their Marsh Green Road North site. The spot was previously home to Shauls bakery before its closure in 2020. Melo aims to blend a modern London-style café with a bakery, honoring the location's historical use. The café will feature a full-time baker, Anna, trained at the National School of Baking in London, ensuring everything from pastries to vegan options are made in-house. Melo will also include a shop area for various branded products. Set to open its doors soon, Melo aspires to become a community hub for Marsh Barton and beyond, promoting a high-quality coffee culture in Exeter.
